Browder to attempt climbing ‘walls’ at schools
Earlier this year, Lee County’s public schools were awarded the Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grant (PEP.) The grant will be used for several physical education-related items, including the purchase and installation of six traversing (climbing) walls, school officials said this weekend.
The schools that received these walls are: Lehigh Acres Middle School, North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts, Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School, Three Oaks Middle School, Trafalgar Middle School and Veterans Park Academy for the Arts.
One school Veteran’s Park Academy for the Arts is holding its “grand opening ceremony” for their new traversing wall. The event is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28. The school is located at 49 Homestead Rd., Lehigh Acres.
Students and staff will get to experience the new wall and the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. James Browder, will be one of the first to attempt to “climb the wall.”
The Traversing Walls will be used to challenge students both mentally and physically, help them develop critical thinking and problem solving skills and encourage physical activity to increase individual fitness levels, school officials said.
