Police search for suspicious person

By Staff | Jun 1, 2009

The Fort Myers Police Department wants the public to be aware a man harassing women in a local parking lot. On May 25, a woman reported that she parked her car at a drug store located at 1525 Colonial Boulevard. She went inside the store and when she returned to her car, the suspect approached her and told her she had a flat tire. He then offered to help her replace the tire with a spare. As she was moving her seat back the suspect inappropriately touched her. The woman immediately pulled away and left the area. She later learned from her mechanic that someone had removed the valve stem from her tire.
While conducting the investigation police learned that this has happened to other women in the parking lot but the incidents were not reported to police. One woman claimed the suspect tried to lure her into his car. Over the weekend police conducted a surveillance operation but did not locate him.
The suspect is described an older, pale looking, white man between the ages of 45-65, 5’8“-5’9”, with a thin build and balding. He was last seen in a light colored, possibly white or cream, older model SUV/Jeep-type vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call FMPD at 321-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
