What really are programs in socialism?

By Staff | Jun 3, 2009

To the Editor:

Martin Harris of Cape Coral, in a letter to the editor says “complainers against socialism either don’tunderstand what socialism really is, or don’t care.” I would place him at the top of this list. He thinks Social Security and Medicare, Veterans Benefits, public schools, police protection, and fire-fighters are socialistic benefits.

I have worked for more than 50 years, and still do, and every pay check has had money taken out, all those years. My last pay check, last week, I paid $19.53 in for Social Security, and $4.57 for Medicare.

I served three years in the U.S. Army, and I, and especially the ones serving now, have earned any benefits coming to us. In my tax statement are taxes for the school district, fire and police district, that I pay every year.

The only time these benefits become socialistic, is when the government politicians issuethese benefits to illegal immigrants and people that never work and paid for these benefits, as they are doing now.

So, Martin Harris, this is one “compassionate conservative” that will step forward and not only continue to receive these benefits, but consider them a “right.”
