Sexual offender arrested for failing to register electronic mail address

By Staff | Jun 9, 2009

A Fort Myers man has been arrested for failing to register an electronic mail address with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Daniel Mater, 40, of 111 Schneider Drive, Fort Myers was arrested on June 9, following a complaint from Mater’s state probation officer that he had received an e-mail from Mater using an e-mail address the probation officer didn’t recognize.
A follow-up investigation by the sheriff’s office Sexual Offender/Predator Unit confirmed that Mater hadn’t registered the e-mail address Danmater2007@hotmail.com with FDLE, and had been using that e-mail address for some time.
In 2007, Florida passed a law requiring registered sex predators and offenders to register any and all of their e-mail addresses with FDLE. Failure to do so is a 3rd degree felony.
A law requiring sexual predators to register their physical addresses with FDLE was enacted in 1997.
