LACPC hopes to fill board vacancies at July meeting
When the Lehigh Acres Community Planning Commission met last week, Bo Turbeville, its president, announced the resignation of two of its members – Tracy Sherman and James Crews. Both have served on the LACPC for maybe a year and said they were resigning for personal reasons.
That leaves an opening for two more civic-minded people who would to become a part of the group that was formed in 2004 to come up with a community plan for Lehigh. It is a private corporation and not an official advisory board; however, it could become an advisory board of an architectural board that would okay or deny future plans by developers for Lehigh.
Presently, the Lee County Commission recognizes it as a board that they depend on for ideas and suggestions when new projects are planned. They ask the LACPC to listen to would-be builders, developers and engineers and to send their resolutions back to the Commission. The group works closely with Jim Mudd, the county’s principal planner.
The County Commission has taken the advice of local members before a project is approved or told to go back and make changes.
The LACPC meets on the second Wednesday night of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans Park Community Center in its main meeting room. The meetings are open to the public and the board consists of 14 members. Turbeville is the president and Edd Weiner is the vice president.
Turbeville said he encouraged people in Lehigh who want to help better their community to apply for the two vacant seats on the board. Those who serve receive no salary. Applicants are asked to send a letter of application to Turbeville and then to make a small presentation to the board before it votes on whether or not the applicant becomes a member.
If you are interested in filling one of the two positions, tell Turbeville and the board why in a letter and mail it to the LACPC and have it to Turbeville no later than July 1. This time, he said applicants could also email their letters to him at: Bo@accentbp.com. The regular mailing address is 516 Lake Ave., Lehigh Acres, FL., 33972.
