Victor P. Jauregui-Borrero
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Saturday, June 13, at around 1:38 a.m., officers received a medical assistance call. The incident occurred at 5217 7th Street West in Lehigh Acres. Deputies responded along with emergency medical personnel. Upon arrival it was revealed a 25-year- old man had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene and identified as Victor Ramirez-Jauregui.
Due to the nature of the call, Homicide Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit were assigned to continue the investigation. Witnesses were interviewed and a suspect identified as the father of the victim. Witnesses confirmed the victim had been involved in a physical altercation with his younger brother.
Investigators said the struggle came to an end when the 19-year-old brother broke a porcelain pot over the older brother’s head. It was soon thereafter, the father, 46-year-old Victor P. Jauregui-Borrero, displayed a handgun at his son. Despite his pleas for his father not to shoot him, he pulled the trigger and shot the victim, according to a Sheriff’s report.
He then pointed the gun at the younger son and threatened to kill him, they said. He eventually, lowered the weapon, but refused to allow witnesses to summon medical assistance for nearly an hour. He relented only in allowing two witnesses to leave for bandages. They took advantage of an opportunity to call 9-1-1 after they left the home.
Victor P. Jauregui-Borrero has been charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm .
