Miracle split with Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH – The Miracle salvaged the final game of a four-game set with the Daytona Cubs Sunday night. They won 4-1 in the second game of a doubleheader
The Miracle had 11 hits, ending a season-worst hitting slump that led to four-straight losses.
In the opener of the doubleheader, the Miracle had a rough first inning. The Miracle recorded four errors, which led to eight runs for the Cubs.
The Miracle fell 8-1, scoring their run on a solo home run by Nick Romero. Mike McCardell (7-4) suffered the loss.
The Miracle (39-23) rebounded to win the nightcap. They scored four runs in the first three innings. Jair Fernandez hit his first home run of the season.
Despite the offensive struggles, the Miracle has gone eight straight games with a home run.
Steve Hirschfeld (2-1) played the role of stopper on the mound. The Utah native limited the Cubs to just two hits in five scoreless innings while walking three and fanning four. Kyle Waldrop surrendered an unearned run in the sixth and Spencer Steedley walked one, struck out one, and gave up a hit to record his second save.
The Miracle start a four-game series at Dunedin at 7 p.m. Monday.
