Local Girl Scouts among those honored for achievements

More than 300 Girl Scouts from the Gulfcoast counties were honored by Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida. at an annual recognition event recently at Riverdale High School. Recognitions included the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards, religious recognitions, graduating Senior Girl Scouts, those who were awarded a 10-year membership pin, and those who sold more than 1,000 packages of Girl Scout cookies this spring.

Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida. is chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA and serves nearly 11,000 girls in10 counties: Manatee, Hardee, Highlands, Sarasota, DeSoto, Charlotte, Glades, Lee, Hendry, and Collier.

Girl Scout Silver Award

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout 11-14 may earn. A girl must complete a number of prerequisite tasks and finish with a 40-hour service project. It builds upon a Girl Scout’s accomplishments in Girl Scouting and represents a personal action plan for helping others. In completing the Girl Scout Silver Award, a girl learns skills in goal setting, planning, and leadership.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn in Girl Scouting. A Junior Girl Scout must complete a number of prerequisite skill-building tasks and finish with a 15-hour service project that reflects her interests and abilities and meets a need in the community. The following Junior Girl Scouts completed the Girl Scout Bronze Award.

Awards went to Lehigh Acres Girl Scouts Biddie Anderson, Karina Boone, Chelsea Gill, Kira Jordan, Taylor Nalewaik, dominique Ribot, Rebecca Simpson, Emma Sokhanvari, Madison Stevens and Tia Wolfe.

Top Girl Scout Cookie Sellers

Cynthia Young of Fort Myers was the top Girl Scout cookie seller for the entire council of Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. She sold 2,519 packages of cookies this spring.

The following Girl Scout was recognized for selling 1,500 to 1,999 packages of Girl Scout cookies in Lehigh Acres. She was Kaitlyn Calcagino,

The following Girl Scouts were recognized for selling 1,000 to 1,499 packages of Girl Scout cookies from Lehigh. They were Cheyenne Howard, Kayla O’Brian, and Kaila Styles.

Officials with Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida Inc. said they were proud of all these young women who have distinguished themselves from their peers by becoming exemplary role models for the youth in their communities.
