Miracle pitcher Steve Hirschfield added to All-Star team
The Florida State League announced today that Fort Myers Miracle pitcher Steve Hirschfeld has been added to the South Division All-Star team for Saturday’s game at Hammond Stadium. Hirschfeld is an injury replacement for St. Lucie pitcher Brant Rustich.
The Moab, Utah native was the Minnesota Twins 9th round pick in 2007 First-Year Player Draft. The 6-foot-3 right-hander has limited opponents to a .168 batting average over 36 2/3 innings. Used primarily in middle relief, he is 2-1 with a 1.72 ERA.
Hirschfeld led Beloit last year with 10 wins and was selected to the Midwest League All-Star Game.
The Miracle will have seven representatives in the league’s mid-season showcase. Hirschfeld will be joined by fellow pitchers David Bromberg and Spencer Steedley. Infielders Chris Cates, Steve Singleton and outfielders Chris Parmelee and Ben Revere round out the home town contingent. Carlos Gutierrez and Danny Lehmann were previously selected, but have since been promoted to New Britain (AA).
The All-Star Weekend begins on Friday night with Fan Fest. The event will take place in front of the scenic backdrop of Hammond Stadium. The event for all ages will feature food, live music, player autographs and kids fun zone. Admission is $5 per car. The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m.
On Saturday night, the Hammond Stadium gates will open at 5 p.m. The night will kick off with the annual Home Run Derby, followed by the game. A spectacular fireworks show will light up the skies of Southwest Florida to wrap up the two-day extravaganza.
Tickets are $8 for box seats and $6 for general admission.
