Kreegel wants ‘official’ audit of ECWCD

By Staff | Jun 20, 2009

Rep. Paige Kreegel

In a June 18 letter to Kathy DuBose, staff director, Joint Legislative Auditing Committee, District 72 State Rep. Paige Kreegel has requested an “official audit” of the East County Water Control District in Lee and Hendry Counties.

“The District has not had an official audit of their financial records in approximately 13 years and I believe that it is time that state auditors make sure that the District is in sound financial condition. It is important to the people of Lehigh Acres that the district be financially sound and able to continue the vital services that they provide,” Kreegel wrote

“Additionally, several constituents have voiced concerns regarding financial efficiency and the appropriateness of expenditures of funds from the district, both in regards to salaries and benefits, as well as purchases made with taxpayer funds,” Kreegel wrote.

The District undergoes a local audit, according to Desmond Barrett, chairman of the board.
