Clarification of story from consultant
To The Editor:
I want to make a few clarifications and corrections in the story “LACC gives nod to new retail center” which was posted June 17.
The Admiral Renaissance CPD, located at the NE corner of Joel Blvd. and David Ave. was approved by a 5-0 vote last Monday and is actually for a total of 140,000 square feet of retail space (Because of a typo, the story said it was 40,000 square feet).
The complex will be comprised of 115,000 square feet in the main tract and 12,500 square feet allocated to each of the two outparcels.
There is actually 523 feet plus or minus feet of frontage on David Avenue and 1,168 plus or minus feet of frontage on Joel Blvd and the site will have two accesses onto Joel, with the main access aligned directory across County Club Parkway.
The concern the Board of County Commissioners initially had with the project was to actually bring the buildings closer to Joel Blvd., not that they were too close, and they suggested that they be moved up. The Board of County Commissioners did not send Banks Engineering to the LACPC for its comments, the applicant chose to have their consultant make a presentation to update the community as the record on the case was closed for public input. Finally, the process mentioned that was favored by the nearby neighbors was accomplishing the sale of portions of the former golf course property various entities including the School District of Lee County and Lee County Parks and Recreation, which was favored over development of those areas.

The LACPC as a matter of policy comes up with a resolution a month later than a presentation and sends it to the County Commission. In this case, it was too late as the county was to hear the final presentation on the following week, according to Commissioner Frank Mann, who was present, and said he would take comments from the LACPC back to the commissioners and he said he believed they would favor the project. The commissioners as a matter of courtesy asks developers to take their plans to the LACPC for comments and public input. – Ed.
