Next month’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

Book Discussion: Stieg Larsson & Reg Keeland’s “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”

3:30 p.m. Monday, July 6

Read “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson and Reg Keeland and discuss it with fellow community members. The East County Book Discussion Group is open to all.

English Caf

6:30 p.m. Thursdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Practice your English in this free informal conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners a chance to practice speaking English on a variety of everyday situations. Participants may start at any time during the 10-week series. No advanced registration is required. Participants should have basic English skills.

Hurricane Preparedness Seminar

2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14

Do you know what to do if a hurricane hits Southwest Florida? New to the area? Need a refresher? Join WINK TV’s meteorologist, Scott Zedeker, and members of the Lee County Emergency Management team as they present this seminar to help prepare you for the hurricane season. Registration is required.

Chess Anyone?

7 p.m. Tuesday, July 21

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Everyone is welcome. Bring a personal chess set, if preferred. Registration is requested. Sponsored by Friends of the East County Regional Library.

Family Storytime

10 a.m. Wednesdays, July 1, 8, 15, 22

7 p.m. Tuesdays, July 7, 14, 21

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

English-Spanish Family Storytime

2 p.m. Saturday, July 11

Enjoy a special storytime in English and Spanish with family and friends.

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10 a.m. Monday, July 13

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.

KIDS

R.E.A.D. Program Reading to Dogs

11 a.m. Saturday, July 25

Independent readers can practice reading in a fun way! Tucker, the Reading Education Assistance Dog will be on hand to listen to you read. He’s a great listener! This pet pal is available to kids of all ages. First come, first served.

Kids Read Down Fines

4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29

Do you have library fines? Take care of them by reading! Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and under. Registration is required.

TEENS

Back to School Class of 2010

6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28

Calling all 2010 high school grads! Graduating from high school is an exciting time, but deciding what to do afterwards can be scary. Come and meet Jerilyn Jamieson and Jenni Caves of Edison State College. They will help students in grades 10-12 plan their future as they discuss ways to enter and pay for college. Parents are encouraged to attend.
