Edison State College will award eight HOPE Scholarships to the son, siblings, and mentee of Guichard “Gucci” Jean- Louis. Gucci, the ESC Student Council President and HOPE Scholar, was killed with his mother in a traffic accident in April on Lee Blvd. in Lehigh Acres.

Dr. Kenneth Walker, president of Edison State College, will present the HOPE Scholarships at a luncheon scheduled for Friday, June 26 at 11:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall.

Attendees will include Dr. Thomas, executive vice president and Lee Campus president, Gucci’s father and six siblings, his son, the Orange River elementary student Gucci mentored, Dr. Ann Bell, principal of Orange River Elementary, and Fred Morgan, faculty adviser to the HOPE Scholars’ Club.

The Project HOPE Scholarship Program awards full tuition and book scholarships to first generation in college students and provides a campus support system to bolster their success. Since 1993, Edison State College’s Project HOPE (Help One Person Excel) has contributed to student success in Southwest Florida by providing graduation incentives to students who are at risk for not continuing their education due to financial or family reasons.
