Miracle beat Cubs 6-4

By Staff | Jun 27, 2009

The Daytona Cubs took three out of four games against the Fort Myers Miracle in June. The Miracle used a third-inning rally and good pitching to take the series opener 6-4 Thursday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle (44-26, 1-0 in second half) have struggled scoring runs of late, but that wasn’t a problem in the third inning against the Cubs. They had four hits and three runs.

The Miracle also overcame a three-run deficit after Daytona (34-34, 0-1) struck first in the first inning.

Deibinson Romero finished 4-for-4 with a run scored, two doubles, a triple, and three RBI. He was thrown out at third trying to stretch one of the doubles into another three-bagger. Romero’s onslaught of offense continued after his walk-off three-run blast in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday.

The third baseman has six hits in his last seven at-bats with two doubles, a triple, a homer, and seven RBI.

Tyler Robertson (5-3) rebounded against Daytona. He allowed only one earned run in six innings and struck out three.

The left-hander gave up five earned runs on 10 hits in five innings to the Cubs at Jackie Robinson Ballpark June 11.

Blair Erickson saved his eighth with two strikeouts in the ninth inning and is now 8-for-10 in save opportunities.

Mike McCardell (7-4, 3.84) starts for the Miracle Friday against Daytona at Hammond Stadium.
