Alliance Raises $4,000 for youth art education

By Staff | Jun 30, 2009

Lee County Alliance of the Arts recent fundraiser, Grapes & Glasses, raised $4,000 for youth educational programs, including Summer Art Camps and the all new Afterschool Arts Program, said Chelsea Birczak, a spokeswoman for the group, today. More than 100 guests sipped wine, enjoyed live music, crafted wine charms and appreciated artwork displayed by students in their first week of camp, she said.

Beyond money raised by ticket sales, the Alliance created art supply baskets that upon purchase will be given to an underprivileged child practicing the arts. Scott Guelcher, education director at the Alliance and former art teacher explains, “Students deserve a full box of crayons and a full palette of paints to explore their creativity at the Alliance we hope to provide our youth with the necessary tools to achieve their goals.”

Guelcher, along with several other Alliance member artists participated in Grapes & Glasses by painting a set of wine glasses, to be included with themed silent auction baskets.

The Alliance spokeswoman said they were pleased to feel generous support from the community and enthusiasm to sustain youth arts education in Lee County. Take the opportunity to send a child to Summer Art Camp by donating a scholarship. Contact Scott Guelcher at (239) 939-2787, education@artinlee.org.
