Senior Center has 50s blast
Lehigh Acres Senior Center’s National Seniors Health and Fitness Day Games and 50s Fun was held recently with John and Debbie LaRocque of Doc’s Custom and Collision antique autos display.
More than100 games registrants received certificates of participation. Volunteer coaches directed games in specific locations with these winners receiving award certificates. Badminton: 1st Lenore Del Castillo, 2nd Ramona Mitchell, 3rd Janice Schwanger. Billiards: Champion Frank McDonald. Bowling (Wii): 1st Jean Lindstrom, 2nd Rick Cormier, 3rd Elizabeth Stone.
Chair Basketball: 1st Pat Buterbaugh, 2nd Marlene McCoy, 3rd Rick Cormier. Drag Racing: 1st Fran Rhodes, 2nd Ethel Stepney, 3rd Delores Karl. Hula Hoops: 1st Hedley Wilson, 2nd Terry Hommen. Jacks: 1st Joan Ferster, 2nd Ramona Mitchell, 3rd Janice Schwanzer.
Paddle Ball: 1st Anna Simenton, 2nd tie Hedley and Aura Wilson, 3rd Fran Rhodes. Pick-up Sticks: 1st Aura Wilson, 2nd Mary Bennett, 3rd Janice Schwanzer. Ping Pong: 1st Fran Rhodes, 2nd Frank McDonald, 3rd Ethel Stepney. Skully’s: 1st Dolly Bishop, 2nd Marlene McCoy, 3rd Pat Buterbaugh. Yo Yo: 1st Hedley Wilson, 2nd Sharon Howen, 3rd Roy Warner.
Musical Chairs: Numerous winners won Double Chocolate Brownies. Center Director Teresa Perkins gave the blessing for the noon lunch buffet including pizza, beverages, ice cream root beer floats and sundaes. The Let’s Entertain Director Penny Phillips introduced the group’s “50s Evening” skit. Phillips led the Hokey Pokey round dance.
Perkins led the Hand Jive Dance. Dance Contests directed by The Robbins followed with winners of these dances, Waltz: Marie St. Pierre and Ted Urban. Rumba: Rose Oliverio and Tom Mc Cauley. Jitterbug: Lenore Del Castille and Daphne Hopkinson. Limbo: Delores Robbins.
The 50s Costume Contest provided a variety of outfits and was won by Terry Hommen and David Damon.
Perkins provided answers to the “brain exercises” followed by these door prizes: National Health and Fitness Day Shirt and bobby socks to Ida Hughes; Lehigh Senior Shirt and bobby socks to Pat Buterbaugh.
The Chadburn Duo provided music, line dances and entertainment from 2-4 p.m. Veggie tray snacks, beverages and cupcakes were served during intermission. Players and spectators had a healthy fun-filled day.
