The city of Cape Coral’s Yacht Club Pool has received a 5-Star rating, the highest rating, for aquatic safety and lifeguard performance from an independent auditor.
The independent evaluation was conducted on June 29 by Starfish Aquatics Institute, which conducts audits at aquatic facilities nationwide. The pool is managed by the City’s Parks & Recreation Department. “This award places the Yacht Club Pool in the top 2 percent of aquatic facilities nationwide with regard to the ability of the staff to anticipate, recognize and manage an aquatic emergency,” said Jill White, founder and President of the Starfish Aquatics Institute, i n a prepared statement released by the city. “This award demonstrates the City of Cape Coral’s commitment to saving lives and providing the best possible environment for patrons.”
The mission of the Starfish Aquatics Institute is to reduce drowning and save lives by providing reputable and responsive aquatic safety training programs and services. The Cape Coral Yacht Club is an independent Training Center for Starfish Aquatics Institute, and as a Training Center, they must participate in the Institute’s Star Review risk management program. The Institute conducts three audits each season. This is the first audit for this year.
The Star Review program is a comprehensive facility operation and performance audit. To qualify to earn Star Award recognition, a facility must meet minimum standards in more than 60 areas that reflect current common practice in the aquatics industry.
There are five categories evaluated in the Starfish Risk Management Model. To achieve a 5-Star rating, a facility must excel in each of these categories:

Prevention
Surveillance
Conscious victim management
Unconscious victim management
Professionalism and personal safety
