Senior Center celebrates Fourth

Lehigh Acres Senior Center Independence Day Picnic was held Thursday, July 2, on Plaza Drive. Under the direction of Manager Teresa Perkins, Vice President Nancy Bartlett welcomed more than 100 guests to the celebration under a red, white and blue canopy among stars and stripes.

Opening prayer was offered by President Ed Bishop. Board Member Chester Olsen led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Diners, wearing American flag colors, feasted on a buffet of Winn-Dixie fried chicken, Publix potato salad, Bartlett’s baked beans, rolls, butter, beverages and Papa John’s fruit pizza dessert, all served on festive tablecloths amid patriotic dcor.

Volunteer servers were Nancy, Bartlett, Dolly Bishop, Ed Bishop, Rose Dunlap, Peggie Halvorsen, Helen Makovsky, George McCollam, Pauline Rice, Marie St. Pierre, and Ted Urban.

Surprise entertainment began with Van Banks presenting a moving patriotic poem by Johnny Cash with background music by Charley Daniels.

Karaoke Queen Lorraine Bradley offered music and words to honor our Grand Old Flag flying over this land made for you and me. George McCollam and Pauline Rice led a rousing sing-a-long with standing ovations to our independence. God Bless the USA! A themed Karaoke Night can be enjoyed the second Monday monthly, 7-9 p.m., with a bountiful of music, games and refreshments.
