A caretaker of a small child has been charged with neglecting the child by leaving him in the car while he left and went to a bar. The incident was reported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Friday night at around 10 p.m.
Authorities said they got a call from the Americinn Hotel at 28600 Trails Ede Blvd. in Bonita Springs. They were told that a young child had been left unattended and was wandering around the hotel property for at least a half hour. Investigators said the investigation revealed that the child had been left alone at the hotel by a caretaker.
Child Abuse investigators said they located the child and were also able to locate the vehicle of the caretaker, identified as Dusty Krogman, 23, in the hotel parking lot.
Investigators said they talked with Krogman who returned to the hotel about 45 minutes later. Investigators said they learned that Krogman left the victim alone at the hotel while he went to nearby Fort Myers Beach to have some drinks with friends.
Krogman was arrested and charged with one count of child neglect without great harm and with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Krogman’s last known address is listed as 207 W. Market Street, Mendon, Ohio, according to a Sheriff’s report.
Investigators said they contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) who send someone to the parking lot to take temporary custody of the child until family members could be contacted, according to the report. The charge of neglect is a felony.
