Thanks offered for quick return of bread trailer

By Staff | Jul 12, 2009

To The Editor,

I would like to thank everyone who called our office following the breaking news about our stolen bread trailer. On the same day the story broke in the papers, on The Citizen’s Lehighacrescitizen.com website and on TV, we had several calls from local citizens and one radio station (100.1FM) offering us the free use of their trailers.

What a great country where everyone comes to the rescueoffering assistance- almost immediately. Our nation is going through tough economic times, yet many people are still willing to give the “shirt off their back” to help those in need. I know that the 250 families who receive weekly bread and the 2,500 people who receive free food from our food pantry are grateful.

Our church has been very fortunate to have the room to store and distribute the bread on Friday mornings. We use the space for AA meetingsfive evenings each week. The space next to it is used by the Boy Scouts two nights a week and one night a week by the Lehigh Community Band.

We house a food pantry and distribute food on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings throughout the year with food generously donated by people who live here in Lehigh Acres, picked up by the U.S. Postal Service and delivered to us and to the Lehigh Community Services Food Pantry.

We also appreciate the quick response from Sheriff Mike Scott and the Sheriff’s Department from the tip that was called in spotting the trailer.
