Miracle blast Reds 13-4

By Staff | Jul 17, 2009

SARASOTA – After struggling to score runs for periods in June and July, the Miracle have erupted for 26 runs in two games against the Sarasota Reds, including Thursday’s 13-4 victory at Ed Smith Stadium.

Joe Benson hit his third homer against the Reds in Sarasota, fourth overall on the year, and first since coming off the disabled list earlier this month. Estarlin de los Santos, also recently disabled, hit his first homer of the year, and Chris Parmelee tied for the league lead with his 12th of the year, a three-run shot late in the game.

The Miracle scored 13 runs on 17 hits Wednesday, but managed 13 on 16 hits Thursday. Michael Tarsi (2-0) is now unbeaten since joining the Miracle rotation. The left-hander went six innings with four earned runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out seven for the second straight game.

Ben Revere, de los Santos, Benson, Mark Dolenc, Nick Romero, and Chris Cates had at least two hits apiece.

The Miracle finish their series with the Reds Friday night, then open a four-game set against Dunedin Saturday night at Hammond Stadium.
