Dunedin Blue Jays overwhelmed by Miracle in Monday not ball

By Staff | Jul 21, 2009

Steve Hirschfeld has now thrown 15 straight scoreless innings – and 21 without an earned run – as the Fort Myers Miracle defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays 6-3 Monday night at Hammond Stadium.

Hirschfeld (4-4) went five innings, scattering four hits. The right-hander walked one and struck out four in his first start after the first complete-game shutout of his career.

Blair Erickson relieved for 1 2/3 innings before leaving after being struck by a line drive. Joe Testa lasted 1 1/3 innings and kept a Miracle lead intact, but surrendered a two-run homer to Jon Jaspe, giving up the first earned runs of his season with the Miracle. Testa allowed three runs (two earned), three hits, one walk, and one strikeout.

Loek van Mil worked a perfect ninth to record his second save.

After struggling with runners on base, having left 17 aboard in the first two games of the series, the Miracle stranded just six Monday on the way to scoring six runs.

Jair Fernandez started the scoring with an RBI double in the second with two outs. Estarlin de los Santos (2-for-3, two runs, double, walk) and Ben Revere (2-for-4, two runs, triple, RBI) had multihit games while Evan Bigley had a two-RBI double.

Ryan Page (6-9) took the loss for Dunedin, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

The final game of the four-game homestand is Tuesday.
