Two teenagers were stabbed in an incident in Veterans Park in Lehigh Acres at around 9:29 p.m. Friday night. A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The charges are felonies.

Sgt. Larry King, a spokesman for the Sherrif’s Office said that the incident occurred in the park at 55 Homestead Road South, on a hill near the skate park area.

When deputies arrived, they observed a victim who had collapsed in a parking lot suffering from a stab wound to his leg, King said. The 16-year-old male victim had run from the hill, lost a significant amount of blood, and was going in and out of consciousness. Deputies rendered aid until EMS personnel arrived on scene, King said.

The teenager was airlifted to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery. A second male victim, also age 16, was located near the basketball courts. He had sustained a wound in the upper left bicep requiring transport to the emergency room at Lehigh Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released, King said. Both victims live in Lehigh Acres.

Deputies were able to gather possible suspect information identifying two male suspects wearing black clothing and riding bicycles. They were located at Leeland Heights Blvd. and Homestead Rd., King said. The subjects were 15-year-old juveniles. One juvenile, identified as Luis Sanabria, 15, of 3rd Street West in Lehigh Acres, had blood on his hands and shoes. A torn shirt was wrapped around a cut on his right hand. EMS was summoned to treat the cut. Both teens were then taken to the Bravo District Office substation for questioning.

King said that due to the nature of the crime, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation. Crime scene technicians were contacted, responded to the scene, documented and collected evidence.

King said that the investigation shows that a fight broke out involving the victim currently in the hospital. During the altercation, Sanabria is accused of producing a knife and stabbing both juvenile victims. The juvenile who was detained with Sanabria was interviewed and released, King said.

The suspect has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for booking, King said.
