Commissioner Mann says Lehigh should revisit incorporation

By Staff | Jul 28, 2009

Lee County Commissioner Tuesday told a large audience of Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce members that the community should take another look at incorporating.

He said that when he was running for the Commission seat two years ago when the issue came before the people, the stayed away from it. The bid for incorporation lost in the election.

But now looking back, he said, I feel that it is time for Lehigh to incorporate. You have the East County Water Conntrol District and the Lehigh Acres Fire Dept. If you were a city, they could become part of the government and you could consolidate and save.

He was the guest speaker at the Chamber’s July luncheon at Magestic Golf Club. The meeting was emceed by John Graham, rather than the Chamber president, Richard Thompson. Chamber officials said they changed the format of the monthly meetings.
