Mendez trial expected to start Aug. 18
Jury selection is expected to begin later this month in the second-degree murder trial of Juan Mendez Jr., 30, the man who was charged in the shooting deaths in July of 2006 of his estranged wife, Whitney Mendez, and her mother, Lorena Stone. Their small child was discovered out in front of the house by a relative and the Sheriff’s Office was called. When they went inside, they discovered the bodies of Whitney Mendez and Lorena Stone.
The trial is expected to start on Aug. 18 and if Mendez is convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
