New group plays at Bell Towers and on the Beach on weekends
Teaming up four years ago, musicians Jeff Lyons and Michael Knox have solidly jammed as Tom Foolery throughout the Southwest Florida area for the last couple months, hitting popular hot spots as Doc Ford’s and Bistro 41 on a weekly basis.
The yin-and-yang duo performs an eclectic mix of covers from the last 50 years, along with plenty of originals, offering a true contrast that blends with the rest of their unique style.
The duo performs at Bistro 41 in the Bell Tower Shops, Fort Myers, Friday nights, from 7 to 11 p.m., and Doc Ford’s on Fort Myers Beach Saturday nights, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Jeff’s more outgoing, wild musical personality blends well with Michael’s more reserved and classical style, creating the perfectly formed union that music groups often require to perform.
“What’s fun about us is we’re polar opposites,” Michael said. “We’re like the yin and yang of music.”
“Order and chaos,” Jeff added.
From Dave Matthews, James Taylor, Kings of Leon and Bob Marley to Coldplay, the Eagles, Leonard Cohen, Jason Mraz and Garth Brooks, Tom Foolery’s set smoothly transitions from one song to the next.
“Our goal is to have someone say, ‘Oh my God. I love that.’ That’s the goal of the whole set. That’s what we’re going for,” Jeff said. “We’re so moldable, we can crank it up or slow it down to whatever the establishment wants.”
Of course, the tag team takes requests. If for whatever reason the song you’d like to hear isn’t on their set list, throw it at them anyway and see if it sticks. They like a challenge.
“We’ll play anything from Pachelbel’s ‘Canon in D’ to Bush’s ‘Glycerine,'” Jeff said.
Michael and Jeff have made guest appearances as Tom Foolery throughout the country, stopping off in Atlanta and Philadelphia, as well as all around Florida.
“We especially love to play all over the Beach,” Michael said. “I’m a born native and love it.”
Tom Foolery is available to perform at private functions and parties, as well as other local establishments and hot spots.
“We’ll perform in your bathroom if you want. If you want music while you shower, we’ll do it,” Jeff said. “We’re not expensive. We’re a great quality product for what we charge. We’re a good time.”
