It’s first place for the Miracle

David Bromberg never faced more than four batters in an inning, striking out nine, as the Fort Myers Miracle moved back into sole possession of first place with Friday’s 7-0 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Bromberg (11-1) walked leadoff batter Shawn O’Malley, but clamped down from that point forward, never even seeing more than four batters in an inning.

The Miracle ace was extremely stingy with baserunners, surrendering just three hits (two out of the infield) and walking two. The only runner to reach second was O’Malley, who stole second in the first inning.

Bromberg’s low-90s fastball, deceptive change, and elusive breaking ball mystified the Stone Crabs for his first complete game since his rookie season in the Gulf Coast League in 2006. It is the second shutout of his career, the first also coming with the GCL Twins.

The Miracle got all the runs they needed on Chris Parmelee’s RBI single in the sixth. They added one more in the inning before breaking through for five runs in the eighth off relievers Ryan Morse and Kevin Boggan

Parmelee pulled into a tie for the league lead in RBI, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Rene Leveret added a 2-for-5 performance along with Deibinson Romero (2-for-3, two runs), and Joe Benson (2-for-4, run).

The Miracle host the Sarasota Reds at Hammond Stadium Saturday night.
