You can do something for the cat population

By Staff | Aug 12, 2009

To The Editor:

Are your readers aware of a program going on all over the country called “TNSR,” Trap, Neuter/Spay, Release and recently it has begun in Lee County?

It keeps feral cats out of shelters and safe from being killed so it save taxpayer money to care for them.

In Jacksonville, it saved 650 cats last year. Why not here at home?

It’s very simple, call Animal Services at 432-2083. Ask when it the next day available for neuter/spaying. Go get a trap for a refundable $25 deposit (I’ve done this numerous times.) This is the best way too, because if you trap a cat and then call to have it neutered or spayed, the vet could have scheduled enough for that day and you would have to let the cat go until the next available date and re-trap them.

It, I’ve been done, too. The cost for the vet is $20.

Take a cage to pick it up and release it where you caught it, to live out its life, no more kittens.

I know some people who have adopted them, the services frown on this.

If everyone who reads this would trap one cat, how much suffering to this an future cats would be prevented?

If I am an elderly (yucky word) slightly built woman and I could have succeeded 21 times, why can’t you, young and not so young?

To those who have unwanted pets, please take them to a non-kill shelter. Don’t throw them out like garbage I’ve trapped them, too.
