Mark A. Pie, the officer-in-charge at the Lehigh Acres Post Office says that three of Lehigh’s city carriers have met the criteria set by the National Safety Council for acceptance into the Million Mile Club.

“This award is bestowed upon professional drivers who log one million miles or 30 or more years without a preventable motor vehicle accident.

“What makes this group so elite is that it takes a whole career of safe driving to get in, making this one of the toughest accomplishments to achieve for someone who drives for a living,” Pie said.

The three carriers are John Hemphill, Nancy Foster and Bob Cooper.

“These three carriers are representative of a growing safety culture in the Postal Service. Each of them is responsible for his or her own safety,” Pie said.

The Lehigh Acres Post Office has not had a preventable (at-fault) motor vehicle accident in 18 months, a noteworthy accomplishment for an office that logs nearly three quarters of a million miles every year.

“I’m proud of these three carriers and all the other employees here in the Lehigh Acres Post Office that prove every day that safety matters,” Pie said.

The Post Office is located at 1201 Business Way in Lehigh.
