Miracle outlast Crabs 5-3 on Sunday
In the 20th and final meeting of the regular season Sunday, the Fort Myers Miracle defeated the Charlotte Stone Crabs 5-3 at Charlotte Sports Park.
The Stone Crabs (29-28 second half) tied the game twice, but the Miracle (33-24) regained the lead once more to improve to 14-6 this season against their Florida State League South Division rivals.
The Miracle had leads of 1-0 and 3-1, but the Stone Crabs came back to tie twice. Finally, the lead stuck in the seventh, as a wild pitch from Austin Hinkle with the bases loaded and two outs put Fort Myers up again, 4-3. The Miracle tacked on another in the eighth on a Nick Romero double.
Romero was involved in a controversial call in the top of the fifth inning. His fly ball to left appeared to cross in front of the yellow foul pole, which would make it a foul ball, but home plate umpire Eric Underwood ruled it fair for a go-ahead two-run homer.
After Charlotte won the first game of the four-game set at Hammond Stadium, the Miracle swept the final three to move four games up in the FSL South.
The Miracle host St. Lucie for three starting Monday at 7:05 p.m.
