By Staff | Aug 27, 2009

The Florida Department of Health has confirmed six new swine flu related deaths, bringing the statewide total to 66.
A 34-year-old Polk County man, 22-year-old Hillsborough County woman, 57-year-old man, 20-year-old man and 50-year-old woman, all of Miami-Dade County, and a 54-year-old Broward County man are the latest H1N1 victims.
No personal information was released Wednesday, and it is unknown if the latest deaths had any pre-existing medical conditions.
It also is unknown whether the Lee County Health Department is waiting on test results for any potential swine flu related deaths.
As of Wednesday, there had been three swine flu deaths in Lee, all adults in their early fifties.
The state health department has launched a swine flu hotline. The toll-free number is to provide the public with swine flue updates.
The Lee County swine flu hotline is no longer operable.
State and local health departments are urging anyone with flu like symptoms to stay home from work and school.
People experiencing cough, fever and fatigue, along with diarrhea and vomiting, should contact their physician.
The new state hotline is (877) 352-3581. It is open 8 a.m.-8 p.m., seven days a week, with information available in English, Spanish and Creole.
