Fund-raiser planned for ailing Cape Coral resident
The organizers of a benefit concert at Pearl Lounge this weekend hope to bring financial aid to an ailing Cape Coral man.
Frank Kelly is afflicted with both a brain tumor and bone cancer, and has very little time left to live.
Prior to his illness, he lost his job and he could now possibly lose his home, leaving his family to deal with the pending problem of homelessness.
Jeff Miles and Cape Cement and Supply want to change that. His band, Wildfire, will be part of the benefit concert this weekend, but he’s also the organizer of the event.
“You do whatever you can for people in the community,” Miles said. “This is the least we can do to help someone else.”
A $5 fee covers a full day of music. Miles said Pearl Lounge will be filled with a constant stream of music between 2-10 p.m.
He called it a “hodgepodge” of the best bands that Lee County has to offer.
“You get a full day’s worth of music and entertainment at a really great club in Cape Coral,” Miles added. “If you’re a music fan, a $5 cover is nothing.”
Miles said that Kelly is currently in hospice care.
He doesn’t know how much time he has to live, but he knows he doesn’t have too much more time.
MIles is urging people to stop by, even if its only for a few minutes. He said that he knows that even though the economy is still reeling, he wants people to step outside themselves for a moment and see that everyone is suffering.
Though his band, Wildfire, has participated in these kinds of fund-raising events before, he said this one has been especially close to his heart.
“This is one of the best causes I’ve been involved in,” he said finally. “It’s a family who is really down on their luck and really needs help.”
