It was a wild win for Miracle in home finale Sunday

By Staff | Aug 31, 2009

The Fort Myers Miracle and Jupiter Hammerheads concluded a thrilling three-game series Sunday with all three games decided by two runs or less.

In the finale Sunday, the Miracle rallied for a 3-2 win in 10 innings.

The Hammerheads scored first, in the second, to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Miracle tied it up in the fifth. No runners scored again until the top of the 10th when Jupiter plated one, but the Miracle scored two in the bottom of the 10th.

Nick Romero walked and reached second on Rene Leveret’s single. Jair Fernandez’s sacrifice bunt advanced Romero and pinch runner Joe Benson, and Estarlin de los Santos followed with a walk to load the bases.

With one out, Ben Revere grounded into a force play but used his speed to beat out a potential game-ending double play. Mark Dolenc then beat out an infield single to score the tying run, and Evan Bigley followed with a single to right, plating de los Santos for the winning run.

The ending set off a wild celebration as the Miracle wrapped up their final homestand in walk-off fashion.
