Miracle rake in awards Monday
Fort Myers Miracle pitcher David Bromberg and manager Jeff Smith were honored Monday by the Florida State League as it handed out postseason awards.
Bromberg (13-3, 2.61 ERA) was named the league’s pitcher of the year and Smith the league’s manager of the year.
The FSL’s postseason All-Star team also includes first baseman Chris Parmelee (16 HR, 72 RBI) and outfielder Ben Revere (.306, 44 SB). Bromberg, 21, was selected as one of the four starting pitchers.
The team is selected annually by vote of the league managers, official scorers and club sports writers representing all 12 teams.
Smith, in his second year as Miracle manager, has compiled a 156-112 mark. The .582 winning percentage is the highest in the club’s 18-year history.
The Miracle captured the South Division’s first-half title and currently lead Charlotte by 3 1/2 games with six games to play in the second-half.
The Miracle, 79-53 overall, have a chance over the final six games of the regular season to set the club record for most wins in a season. The 2000 Miracle finished 83-57 under manager Jose Marzan.
