Senior Center turns into casino

Lehigh Acres Senior Center Las Vegas Games and Events Day was held Thursday,Aug. 27 on Plaza Drive with registration by Greeter Helena Drazez. Center Director Teresa Perkins welcomed more than 125 guests and volunteers to the festivities and started the 11:30 a.m. buffet line with two seatings on the patio.

The buffet included turkey burgers or hot dogs by Grillmaster Chester Olsen on white or wheat buns. Toppings included tomatoes, lettuce, onions, relishes and condiments. Side dishes were coleslaw and baked beans.

Chocolate brownies were served for dessert with pink lemonade on tap. Games followed at 1:15 p.m. as cashiers distributed players chips cups. The bar included Virgin Drinks all afternoon with snacks served by the red and black French costume clad Can Can Girls – Mary Bennett, Nancy Brodley, Lenore Delcastillo and Terry Hommen between their shows 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. on the stage and throughout the hall.

Casino-like games in the Ballroom included cards, Over and Under Cage with Miriam Berger, Horseracing with George McCollam, Pauline Rice and Terry Homman, Roulette Wheel spun by Sharon Howen and Clark Rhodes directed the Slot Machine play.

Game Show competition included Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

Hostess Marie Bonnoyer, Bingo was called by Ed Bishop monitored by Dolly Bishop with Katie Sasse, Family Feud Hostess Liz Coxe , Pictionary M.C. Marge Halvorsen and Wheel of Fortune hosts Charlotte “Vanna” Walter and Josephine “Pat” Scotten in individual rooms.

Grand Prize basket winner was Headley Wilson with more than 700,000 points with all in attendance winners of an exciting and interesting day. Music was by “LeDeux” was the grand finale for gamers, dancers and music-lovers.
