Miracle clinch FSL South title
PORT ST. LUCIE – Tyler Robertson recorded his eighth win for the Fort Myers Miracle in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday, an 8-4 victory over the St. Lucie Mets. It earned the Miracle division titles in both halves of the Florida State League season despite losing the second game 2-1.
The Miracle scored all eight runs in the fifth inning after trailing 3-0. Ben Revere had a run-scoring single, Estarlin de Los Santos brought in another with a sacrifice fly, and then the bases were loaded for Mark Dolenc. The outfielder doubled inside the third base line to clear the bases, making it 5-3. Joe Benson singled to bring in Dolenc, and Deibinson Romero’s home run plated two more.
Robertson (8-8) gave up three earned runs on six hits in his five innings. He walked four and struck out five. All three runs against him scored on homers.
In the nightcap, a Chris Parmelee double put the Miracle up 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but the Mets retaliated. Eric Campbell doubled and Stefan Welch brought him in on a ground ball that handcuffed Dolenc in left for an error.
Tony Maccani’s fielder’s choice brought in Welch from third for the game-winning run.
