Bromberg, Miracle fall 4-3 on Thursday

By Staff | Sep 4, 2009

Winning the division title in both halves of the FSL season, for the first time in franchise history, sends the Miracle (80-55 overall, 37-29 2nd half) into the best-of-three South Division Finals series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs (70-64, 33-33) beginning Tuesday in Port Charlotte.

The Miracle host the last two games of the series Wednesday and Thursday (if necessary) at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle sent ace pitcher David Bromberg (13-4) to the hill Thursday night, but the Florida State League’s pitcher of the year gave up three earned runs while striking out seven in five innings in a 4-3 loss to the St. Lucie Mets.

The Miracle face the Jupiter Hammerheads in the final three games of the regular season starting Friday night.

The Stone Crabs earned a wild-card playoff spot with the second-best overall record.

The Miracle won the regular-season series (14-6), going 7-3 with the Crabs both on the road and at Hammond Stadium.

The winner advances to the league championship series against the North Division winner between the Tampa Yankees and Brevard County Manatees. The best-of-five championship series starts either Sept. 10 or 11 at the home of the North Division winner.
