FEC releaes results in Anderson probe
No probable cause has been found by the Florida Elections Commission to show Lehigh Acres activist Robert Anderson knew he was filing a false complaint about campaign donations accepted by three fire commission candidates in 2008.
The Elections Commission reached its conclusion on Aug. 18, but did not release the decision until this week.
Anderson complained the candidates accepted too much money from the firefighter’s union because there was only one general election and no primary for the race.
The complaints were declared legally insufficient and rejected by the state.
The state also took the position that donations received during the primary campaign period for other races were acceptable as were those received after the campaign moved into the general election.
Counter complaints were then filed against Anderson.
The commission also upheld a $283 fine against Anderson for filing a campaign finance report five days late. He was a candidate for the fire board in 2008.
