Carriers will pick up food Saturday for Lehigh folks
To The Editor:
In these tough economic times, more and more families are losing their jobs and their homes. This has greatly increased the demands put on our local food banks.
Their shelves are at critically low levels. They’ve asked the folks at the Postal Service for some help.
The NALC Food Drive every May is the single largest food drive in the nation, collecting millions and millions of pounds of food for the needy.
To that end, we’re hosting a food drive next Saturday, September 12. We’ll have flyers in the mailboxes next week as reminders. Just as with the May food drive, we’re asking customers to leave non-perishable food items at their mailboxes to be collected by their mail carrier.
Donations can also be deposited in a hamper we’ll have set up in the post office lobby next week.
This is a Lehigh Acres-only food drive. We are the only office I’m aware of in this area that will be involved.
All food collected stays right here in Lehigh Acres, for Lehigh Acres. In the past, the community response has been overwhelming.
The amount of food collected by this office has grown every year. I’m sure the generousity of the community will push this food drive over the top.
