Miracle come up short, 3-2

By Staff | Sep 11, 2009

Winning the South Division in both halves of the Florida State League season didn’t help the Fort Myers Miracle advance to the League Championship Series.

The Miracle were forced to play catch-up from the second inning on Thursday night and came up one run short in a 3-2 loss to the Charlotte Stone Crabs, who won the best-of-three division series 2-1 and go on to face the Tampa Yankees starting Friday night in Tampa.

The Stone Crabs scored twice in the second inning and once in the fifth.

In the fifth, the Miracle cut the lead to 3-1. Jair Fernandez led off with a double to deep center and later scored on an RBI single by Ben Revere.

The Miracle continued their comeback bid in the seventh. Deibinson Romero led off with a double and Revere came through with his second RBI single.

The Miracle put two runners on in the bottom of the eighth, but Evan Bigley and Joe Benson each struck out. They went down 1-2-3 in the ninth.
