Prep Report: Tritons win 2nd straight
Samantha Greenwell sparked the Mariner Tritons to a three-game sweep at North Fort Myers Thursday night.
The Tritons won by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-23.
Greenwell, a junior, dished out 13 assists and also had five kills. Senior Debra Swain contributed seven kills and four digs.
After starting the season with three straight losses, the Tritons have won back-to-back matches. They host Riverdale Tuesday.
The Red Knights (2-7) were led by Jessica Petrucci (eight kills, five digs), Jessica Wagner (seven kills, five aces) and Lindsey Tryon (seven digs).
The Knights visit East Lee County Monday.
Cypress Lake 3, Ida Baker 0: The Ida Baker Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season at Cypress Lake, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.
Sophomore Kali Nordquist and Chelsea Gomer continued their play off the bench.
Taryn Maymon had seven kills and five blocks, Payton Van Horn had four blocks and Chelsea Shafer tallied 10 kills.
The Bulldogs (3-1) host Dunbar Monday.
South Fort Myers 3, Cape Coral 0: Cassie Maselter played a stellar defensive game, but the Seahawks lost at South Fort Myers, 25-10, 25-20, 25-16.
Maselter also had three kills, while Kristina Kraig added four kills for the Seahawks (0-4)
The Seahawks did pick up their first junior varsity win, 25-19, 25-19. Freshman Chrishawnda Carter recorded 11 aces.
Cape hosts Estero Tuesday.
Boys Golf
At Coral Oaks Country Club: Rain picked up in the late afternoon, resulting in only a six-hole tri-match between Mariner, Cypress Lake and Island Coast.
Mariner’s Kyle Schulte posted the lowest score with a 2-over-par 26 and the Tritons finished with a team score of 112.
Dean Hofer shot 28, and C.J. Cricco and Braden Junkins carded 29 for the Tritons (3-1).
Tritons coach Marty Waters said the team is being held back by mental mistakes.
“We’re still struggling,” he said, “but we’re getting a little better each time we play.”
Drew London and Mitchell Betts tied for the lowest score for Cypress Lake with 29, and Jordan Carr led Island Coast with 37.
Mariner travels to face Fort Myers at Eastwood Country Club Tuesday.

At Palmetto Pine County Club: Ryan Gallick and Michael Faulkner each fired 3-over-par 39s, leading the Ida Baker Bulldogs to a victory over North Fort Myers and Lehigh.
Lehigh, which participated with three players, did not compile a team or individual scores.
Dylan Fine shot a 41, and Cody Byers and Miko Dougherty 43 for the Bulldogs (7-0).
The Bulldogs host Island Coast and East Lee County Tuesday.

At Magnolia Landing: Brittany Agricola fired a 46 to lead North Fort Myers, but the Red Knights fell to Gulf Coast, 172-254.
Gulf Coast’s Emma Smyser was the medalist with a 2-over-par 38.
The Sharks are 4-0 this season, while the Knights dropped to 0-3.
The Knights play Riverdale Tuesday at River Hall Country Club.
