One dead, one seriously injured in two-car crash
One person died and another was seriously injured in a two-car collision at Veteran’s Parkway and Country Club Boulevard early Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Ernesto Romero, 20, of 223 SE 24th Ave.; the injured as Robyn Snow, 19, of 321 Kamal Parkway. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:02 a.m.
According to the initial reports, a vehicle driven by Joshua Lee Reynolds, 20, of 14082 Bentley Circle, Fort Myers, was traveling eastbound on Veterans Parkway with two passengers, Celia M. Turek and Sean D. Wilson, of Clearwater.
A second vehicle driven by Donna Snow, 21, of 321 Kamal Parkway, was traveling westbound on Veteran’s Parkway, also with two passengers, Romero and Robyn Snow.
As Reynolds approached the intersection of Country Club Boulevard, the traffic light turned yellow and he attempted to stop. However, he was unable to and slid into the intersection. At that time, Snow had entered the intersection to turn southbound onto Country Club Boulevard with the green arrow, authorities said.
The front of Reynolds’s vehicle struck Snow’s 2006 Nissan Titan.
The impact of the crash tore open the passenger compartment of Snow’s truck. The rear passenger, Ernesto Romero, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene., authorities said. The other passengers in both vehicles were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. Robyn Snow received serious bodily injury, officials said. Neither of the two passengers in Reynolds’ 2003 Ford F250 Super Duty were hurt nor was either driver injured, officials said.
