A former Cape Coral Hope Hospice nurse was arrested Wednesday, accused of providing a lethal dose of morphine to an acquaintance in July.

Tenee Goldsberry, 25, of 701 N.W. 17th Place, also known as Tenee Mondragon, has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Abbie Crawford, 34. She was taken into custody by a U.S. marshal at approximately 1:30 p.m. in High Point, N.C. She was formerly of Lehigh. She has been brought back to Lee County to face charges.

According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office officials, Crawford was found unresponsive in her Lehigh Acres home at approximately 2:27 a.m. July 12 and was rushed to the hospital, where she later died of acute morphine toxicity. An investigation by the Lee County Major Crimes Unit spanning two months revealed Goldsberry was working July 11 at Cape Coral Hope Hospice and illegally supplied Crawford, who was not a patient at the time, with the morphine the same night, officials said.

Crawford died within hours of injecting the drugs, police said. Hope Hospice was informed of the incident and has cooperated with police investigations, according to police. Goldsberry has not been in contact with patients or associated with patient care since Hope Hospice became aware of the investigation. Goldsberry is being held in the Guilford County Jail. The date of her return to Lee County depends on whether she waives or fights extradition.
