Lehigh boy dies after being hit by van
A Lehigh Acres boy died Wednesday morning after he was transported to Tampa General Hospital from Lee Memorial Hospital on Tuesday after he was hit by a van. The boy, identified by the Florida Highway Patrol, is Brandon Castillo, who was eight years old.
According to the police report, Doris Toombs, 27 of Lehigh was driving east on 10th St. at around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Police said the boy ran out in front of her path at the Hamilton Avenue Intersection where there is a bus stop.
Castillo is a student at Treeline Elementary School.
According to police, there was an early morning glare that kept the driver from seeing the youngster run out in front of her. She remained at the scene for a time and had to be taken to the hospital and treated for shock, according to reports.
There were three students at the bus stop on the south side of the road when one of them ran out in front of an oncoming car, police said.
