Two Cape Coral men were arrested on drug charges Wednesday after allegedly selling cocaine to undercover officers near a local child care facility.

Obed Jean, 22, was charged with selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a child care facility and possession of marijuana.

Michael Curry, 24, the reported brother of Jean’s girlfriend, was charged with selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a child care facility and possession of cocaine.

Undercover officers met with Jean and Curry at a 7-Eleven convenience store at 3206 Santa Barbara Blvd. and purchased 3.14 grams of powdered cocaine for $200, according to reports. The transaction took place within 1,000 feet of the Young Explorers Early Learning Center at about 8 p.m.

After the transaction, Jean and Curry entered a white Buick SUV and were subsequently arrested by nearby surveillance teams, police said.

Jean reportedly told police he sold the cocaine because he had a baby on the way and had no job.

Curry said he did not know why he was being arrested and refused to make further comment to police, reports state.

Jean and Curry were taken to the Lee County Jail in apparent good health.

Curry remained in custody Thursday evening on a combined $31,000 bond, according to jail records. Jean remained in the Lee County Jail on a combined $31,500 bond.
