There’s more to the story than reported
To The Editor:
Reporter Kevin Shea continues to report only part of the story when writing about the local water control board, ECWCD. A recent article on ECWCD budget, September 16, Citizen, tells only half the truth.
Mr. Shea is correct to point out tax assessments have been raised 46 percent over the past four years but fails to point out the tax assessments are still 20 percent lower than 10 years ago. How many other taxing districts can make that claim?
It would also be enlightening to the public if Mr. Shea would point out this fact, Frank Lohlien, local tax critic, voted for and passed the largest tax assessment in the history of ECWCD when he was serving the public as a member of the ECWCD board.
Mr. Shea’s fact finding regarding past voting records and tendencies also seems off the mark. He points out Commissioner Mike Welch is breaking a pattern of voting down tax increases in election years. I guess I need to point out Mr. Welch has not been there long enough to establish an election year voting record.
The public needs our media coverage to be fair and unbiased.
