Wants private insurance firms to compete
To The Editor:
Listen folks, I want the public option to be included in the national healthcare reform package. I am very concerned about my healthcare costs. I have a group plan with my company and I believe with all my heart that if the government offers a public health plan, then my insurance company will have to compete. If the public option is cheaper and I get what I need, I would change.
Guess what, the rich insurance companies will have to lower their prices and stop increasing the cost of my insurance and upping my deductibles each year.
That is my selfish reason for a public option in the bill. If I were not insured, I would want something affordable and the public option would be just the thing. I believe everyone in America should be provided healthcare insurance, even if the country has to help the disadvantaged afford it.
This fight about national healthcare reform reminds me of the fights during the days of FDR when the Republicans were against Social Security and fought it with all the might they had. Today those Republicans who fought it so hard, those that are still living, get monthly Social Security checks and I dare say most depend on them to survive, if they can.
