Arrest made in bank robbery case
Kraig Knight has been charged with one felony count of bank robbery and one felony count of wearing a mask during the commission of a crime. He has been transported to the Lee County Jail for booking.
On Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at around 11:19 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a robbery at the Royal Palm Bank, located at 7040 Winkler Road, Fort Myers. While on the phone with dispatch, the complainant provided a detailed description of the suspect, the make and model of the suspect’s vehicle, and the direction the suspect was traveling, according to the Sheriff’s investigators
The suspect was described as a white male, 5 foot, 6 inches, 170 pounds, wearing a white shirt, jeans and a mask and traveling in a red Volkswagen Beetle.
While responding to the bank, a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy identified a vehicle at the intersection of Cypress Lake Drive and South Pointe Boulevard that matched the description of the suspect vehicle.
Investigators said a traffic stop was conducted a short distance away. Deputies identified Kraig William Knight, 44, as the driver. Knight matched the description of the robbery suspect, investigators said. He was detained while investigators met with individuals who witnessed the robbery.
Detectives met with multiple witnesses who provided statements that identified Knight as the suspect in the robbery, according to a Sheriff’s Office report. Detectives also located items in Knight’s car that linked him to the crime.
He has been transported to the Lee County Jail for booking.
No weapon was visible during the robbery. None of the victims was injured, investigators said.
