One person is dead and another has been hospitalized following a near head-on crash today shortly before 1 p.m. on SR82 and Bell Blvd. in Lehigh Acres. No names have been released by midday today.

According to news reports, one of the cars landed in a ditch.

A Corvette was heading east and apparently attempted to pass in a no-passing zone on SR82. According to reports, that driver was airlifted by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers.

The driver of the Impala was dead when Lehigh EMTs arrived at the accident site, officials said.
