Fort Myers police investigating fatal hit and run
A man walking near the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard and Desoto Avenue was killed Saturday morning after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver.
The accident ocurred at 1:39 a.m.
The victim was crossing Palm Beach Boulevard and was struck in the westbound lanes. According to witnesses, the vehicle involved in the crash continued westbound, then made a quick u-turn and fled eastbound on Palm Beach passing the crime scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle is described as a large box-style Nissan possibly an SUV. It is light in color, possibly white, beige or champagne and now has heavy damage to the front of the vehicle, according to a release from the Fort Myers Police Department.
The victim is described as an Hispanic male. He had a wallet but no identification, officials said. Inside the wallet police found a receipt in his pocket that shows he sends money to Guatemala.
He was described as five feet, three inches tall and weighing 175 pounds.
